James Glade established the Glade Candy Company at the turn of the last century. The produced salt water taffy, hard candy, chocolates, and other candies. In the 1990s his sons David, Vernon, and Bud decided to focus their efforts on producing outstanding tasting salt water taffy using a unique production method. They whipped their taffy instead of the traditional pulling. The result provided a lighter, more flavorful taffy with the ability to expand the number of flavors and designs.
I served in a non-profit organization with Vernon for several years. He would stop by the factory on his way to serve in our non-profit center to pick up a fresh bag of salt water taffy. The best salt water taffy I ever ate arrived warm from the production line.
